Which

which sorusu ile soru sorma : İngilizce ''Which'' sorusunun dilimizdeki karşılığı "Hangi"dir. " Hangisi  ?" sorusu "which one?" şeklinde sorulur.  Duruma göre which yerine which one soru kelimesi de kullanılabilir.

-Which is your house? -The green one is my house. -Which one is your house?  -Which supermarket do you go to? -I go to Migros. -Why do you go to Migros? -Because it is cheap.

Which city do you live in? In which city do you live?

Böyle durumlarda preposition başa alınabilir. Böylece anlatım daha formal olur.

Why sorusu ile soru sorma : İngilizce ''Why'' soru kelimesi, Türkçede "Niçin" anlamındadır. Genellikle farklı tenseler ile kullanılır.

-Why are you late? -I'm late because the traffic was heavy. -Why is the room dark? -Because the lamp is broken. -Why are Ferrari's fast? -Because they have big and modern engines.

a lot of, many, much

A lot of A lot of tabiri , "çok" anlamında kullanılır.

There are a lot of cars on the road. Students have a lot of books. I have a lot of problems now. I want a lot of money.

İngilizce günlük konuşmalarda, bazen "a lot of" yerine "lots of" da kullanılır.

We have lots of trees in our garden.

Negatif cümlelerde ve soru cümlelerinde de kullanılabilir, ancak "many" veya "much" kullanımı daha yaygındır.

There aren't a lot of items in the grocery list. There isn't a lot of time. Are there a lot of pictures in the yearbook? Is there a lot of salt in this soup?

Many  Many tabiri, çok manasında ve sadece countable (sayılabilen) çokluklar için kullanılır.

There are many cars on the street. My brother doesn't have many friends. Not many people live in deserts. Do you have many books in your backpack?

 

Much Much tabirini de uncountable (sayılamayan) çokluklar için kullanırız.

I don't eat much food for breakfast. He doesn't have much knowledge about history. Do you need much help for your homework?

Many ve much kelimelerinin pozitif cümlelerde kullanılması, cümleye formal (resmi) bir anlam katar. Özellikle günlük kullanımda pozitif ifadelerde "a lot of", negatif ifadelerde ve soru ifadelerinde "many" veya "much" tercih edilir. Many ve much kelimeleri en çok "how much" ve "how many" soruları şeklinde kullanılır. "How many" kaç tane anlamındadır.

-How many children are there in your school? -There are 200 pupils in my school -How many sheep are there in your flock? -I have 100 sheep in my flock.

"How much" hem miktar olarak, hem de fiyat olarak "ne kadar" anlamında kullanılır.

-How much sugar do you want in your coffee? -I want half a spoon of sugar in my coffee. -How much money do you have in your bank account? -I don't have much. -How much is a kilo of apples? -A kilo of apples is 2 liras.
